GlobeCore Develops and Tests New Offshore Power Transformer Oil Maintenance System
Oldenburg-Eversten (PRWEB UK) 29 October 2015 -- On July 5, 2015 a new GlobeCore Clean Marine Unit (capacity 4 m3/h) was commissioned on an offshore drilling platform approximately 250 km from the seacoast of Nigeria. It was tested during August and September, and it was completely successful in treating and processing transformer and industrial oils at sea.
For many years, oil and gas have been a major source of energy throughout the entire world. The depletion of existing deposits of mineral resources has prompted companies to explore for, and develop new sources of oil and gas, particularly at deep-water locations.
The methods of offshore drilling, performed on special offshore platforms are used to explore for previously untapped deposits of oil and natural gas. There are different ways to serve these platforms with electricity however, the role of the electric power transformer remains unchanged. It not only transforms AC current for the platform’s staff needs, but also for high-power equipment found on the offshore rigs. The efficient operation of a drilling platform greatly depends on the transformers’ reliability and ability to provide an uninterrupted source of electric power.
The GlobeCore Clean Marine is designed for vacuumizing of offshore transformers as well as for the purification of transformer oils by removing unwanted mechanical impurities, water and gasses.
Additionally, the GlobeCore Clean Marine fully complies with the demands of offshore drilling in the harsh marine environment due to it is compact in size, mobility, explosion-proof design, and anti-corrosion coatings.
The GlobeCore Clean Marine restores transformer oil to new-like condition, thereby extending the service life of the oil and the transformer. As a result, it increases the long term reliability of the offshore drilling platforms electric source, saves money on new oil purchases and greatly eliminates the need for waste oil disposal.
The Clean Marine may be operated in one of the following modes:
- Transformer oil heating;
- oil degassing; and
- transformer vacuumizing.
