Security Innovation’s Aerolink™ software provides security and privacy for Renesas’ Vehicle-to-Vehicle/Infrastructure/Pedestrian (V2X) communications

Security Innovation, a pioneer in software and automotive security, announced today that it has been selected by Renesas Electronics Corporation to supply its Aerolink secure communications software for Renesas’ Vehicle to Everything (V2X) communications solutions. Security Innovation has been working with Renesas and its technology partners for over a year to provide a fast and reliable security subsystem to deliver the promise of a significantly safer transportation system.

Aerolink is the leading implementation of connected car security standards and will provide security and privacy for future vehicle-to-vehicle communications. “Security Innovation works closely with global automakers and their major suppliers to help build secure and private communication systems for connected vehicles,” said Peter Samson, General Manager of the Security Innovation Embedded Security Business Unit. “We are tremendously proud of the trust and confidence that Renesas has placed in the knowledge and expertise of our engineering team. We look forward to a long and successful relationship with this industry-leading organization.”

“Renesas is committed to providing better safety and comfort to the automotive industry by leveraging our strong partnership with the partner companies as well as with our advanced automotive semiconductor solutions,” said Jean-François Chouteau, Vice President of the Global ADAS Solution Group at Renesas Electronics Europe. “Security Innovation’s Aerolink middleware optimally utilizes the embedded security features of our R-Car SoCs (System-on-Chips) and is an important element of our V2X solutions. This solution contributes greatly to safer driving and our shared goal to accelerate the deployment of V2X systems.”

Security Innovation has been integral in establishing both the security and privacy of messages that are communicated between vehicles. Concerns over government tracking of individuals, use of the data to monitor driving habits, and fears over malicious hackers triggering accidents have been a consideration since the first version of the IEEE 1609.2 security standard. Security Innovation’s Chief Scientist, Dr. William Whyte, has been a driving force for automotive security and privacy since 2005. Dr. Whyte is a well-published expert in data encryption and was named a Privacy by Design ambassador by the federal government of Canada in 2013.

As a featured Connected Cars partner, Security Innovation will be speaking about V2X security at the Renesas DevCon October 12-15, 2015 in Orange County, CA.

Security Innovation will also be exhibiting (Booth C2) its Automotive Security Solutions at the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress in Bordeaux, France on October 5 – 9, 2015.
