The Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) will host the 2015 5k Walk to Fight Lymphedema & Lymphatic Diseases, which will begin at 8 a.m. with registration at John Paul High School, Plano, and commence at 9:00 a.m. with a ribbon cutting and speeches. Registration is easy and teams are forming now.
The event will provide an opportunity for families and individuals to spend a day out for a good cause. For those who cannot attend there are other ways to help. Donations can be made online at http://lymphatic.donorpages.com/LYMPHWALKNY2015/. There’s even a chance to become a virtual walker.
Lymphedema and lymphatic diseases remain unknown to most people despite affecting up to 10 million Americans — that's more than AIDS, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, and ALS combined. People affected by lymphedema and lymphatic diseases can be of all ages and backgrounds.
The 2015 Walk to Fight Lymphedema & Lymphatic Diseases, hosted by Texas co-chair Angelica Flores (a lymphedema patient and community advocate), will raise public awareness of these diseases and benefit patients and vital research.
“Lymphedema and lymphatic diseases have had little awareness or support over the past 50+ years,” says Flores. “We are here to let you know this is all changing here in the South. With the help of you and your family, we are breaking new ground in Texas. We are starting out by hosting a 5K walk in Plano where patients can come and see all of our favorite vendors such as Tactile Medical, the creators of Flexitouch, and Women’s Health Boutique. Other Walk sponsors are Eiger BioPharmaceuticals and Lympha Press. We are honored to have the renowned Texas specialists in the lymphatic field David Zawieja, Ph.D., and Michel Saint-Cyr, M.D., who will speak about upcoming research taking place and the new surgical options available to lymphatic patients.”
