The lead chemist at our facility is more of an artist.

With the fall harvest upon us in Humboldt County so comes the announcement of our new scientist, Kendall Ford, at Smack Dab Oil and the importance of science in refinement.
Ford, a physics graduate from Utah State formerly doing R&D at the microchip giant Intel near Portland OR, recently commented, "The cannabis industry has seen astronomical advances through technology over the past several years. The CO2 extractor, at the moment, is the cleanest producer of cannabis oil for medicinal and recreational use. The older methods, such as oil extraction through butane, can leave behind harmful carcinogens and may produce a less than pleasant aftertaste to the end user. CO2 extractors are not cheap and require a high amount of maintenance. They certainly break the plant down to a level of useful oil, but the talent of producing the highly sought after golden honey oil lies not only in the machine but in process and technique." Such is the case at Smack Dab Oil of Humboldt CA.
Ford commented, "Extraction science is an art and craft. Smack Dab operates one of the finest CO2 extractors that money can buy, but the key to producing the golden honey is timing. If the oil is extracted at precisely the right moment then the use of quality-degrading alcohol and heat to remove unwanted wax is eliminated. This makes for a very organic product with the highest purity level. Our process retains the integrity of the terpenes and flavonoids. It's all about keeping the product as pure as possible. The darker tainted oils that have dominated the industry for years are now a thing of the past for our clients."
Extraction expert Ford continued, "In the past, significant butane-extracted cannabis oil tested positive for carcinogens and toxins linked to insufficiently refined butane (dirty butane) and to residual butane hydrocarbons. Our CO2 extraction methods circumvent any introduction of potentially harmful solvents and hydrocarbons. I believe these terpene-rich oils allow the vascular system to evenly distribute the healing properties of the cannabinoid much quicker and cleaner throughout the body than conventional smoking."
