Weinberger Law Group Honors Domestic Violence Awareness Month with Community Project and New Resources for New Jersey’s Victims of Domestic Abuse
Parsippany, New Jersey (PRWEB) October 07, 2015 -- Nearly one in four women, one in seven men, and approximately three million children across the United States are affected by domestic violence. In New Jersey, an estimated 70,000 instances of domestic abuse are reported to police each year, with an untold number of cases left unreported. Given these serious statistics, Weinberger Law Group will honor October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month with new projects aimed at educating victims and supporting DV prevention efforts by local community groups.
“As family law attorneys, we work with victims of domestic violence every day. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is very personal to us,” explains family law expert, Bari Z. Weinberger, Esq., managing partner of Weinberger Law Group.
The first of the divorce and family law firm’s projects is the publication of a new legal resources guide, A Guide for Domestic Violence Victims in New Jersey, authored by Weinberger. “One of the greatest barriers for victims of domestic violence in reaching out for help is not understanding their legal rights. From restraining orders to temporary orders for child custody, our goal is to give victims peace of mind that the law in New Jersey is on their side. We also provide specific tips for male victims and LGBT victims of domestic violence, as well as how to recognize signs of domestic violence,” she elaborates.
As part of community outreach, A Guide For Domestic Violence Victims In New Jersey will be available as a free download on Weinberger Law Group’s website throughout the month of October, once launched, and at a special discounted price on the Amazon Kindle store. For those who prefer a condensed version of the book, the firm has put together a free PowerPoint slideshow, which will be available for viewing online in October. An additional pamphlet on Keeping Smartphones & Computers Safe From Spying Spouses is also available for download.
Weinberger Law Group will also partner this month with the Center for Hope and Safety, a Hackensack-based domestic violence shelter and educational non-profit, to participate in its drive to collect used cell phones for the Hopeline Project. With the funds raised from the sale of the refurbished phones, Verizon Wireless will donate cell phones and airtime to victims, and provide funding and other contributions to the Center for Hope and Safety and other local and national DV-related groups.
“We are collecting cell phones in all of our offices and have simple instructions for how to prepare phones for donation. Then just stop by and we will do the rest! It’s an easy way to make a big difference for local victims of domestic violence,” Weinberger confirms.
Cell phones will be collected throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
