Where Does Your State Rank? Interactive Map Shows the Most and Least Incarcerated States
Fredericksburg, VA (PRWEB) October 07, 2015 -- Virginia Traffic Attorney, Andrew Flusche has published an interactive data map of the United States to show exactly how much of each state’s population is behind bars. According to the map, an estimated 0.7% of the U.S. population is behind bars, making the U.S. the most incarcerated country of all the NATO member nations. The findings show detailed information, including the fact that Louisiana is the most incarcerated state with 0.85% of its population in jail, and Maine and Massachusetts are tied with the lowest percentage of only 0.16% in jail. Virginia falls nearly in the middle of the spectrum with a rank of 19 and 0.45% of the population in jail.
Users can click on any state to see further information such as: overall rank out of the 50 states, percentage of the population incarcerated, percentage of total U.S. prisoners, and percentage of the total U.S. population. Aside from satisfying curiosity of state residents, this tool can be used for identifying states that have tougher laws and stricter sentencing for crimes.
To share the most relevant information with unique audiences online, the visual data map and underlying tabular data can also be easily embedded on other websites.
"It's shocking to see how much disparity there is between the states, when it comes to their incarceration rates. This tool reveals how harsh some states are when it comes to jailing their residents," Flusche explained. "The regional patterns that this tool highlights may also surprise people."
