Kajeet Announces Program to Help Students Affected by CLEAR/Sprint WiMAX Shutdown Stay Connected to the Internet
MCLEAN, Virginia (PRWEB) October 07, 2015 -- Kajeet, the industry leader for safe mobile student Internet connectivity, announced today that it has launched a special program to keep students connected to the Internet at home for those school districts affected by the CLEAR/Sprint WiMAX shutdown next month. In an effort to ensure students are not without wireless service in the middle of the school term, Kajeet will allow schools to trade-in unusable WiMAX devices issued by other companies in exchange for a Kajeet SmartSpot®—a filtered Wi-Fi hotspot—at no additional cost.
As Sprint improves its 4G LTE network throughout the U.S., CLEAR WiMAX towers will be decommissioned and service to all CLEAR/Sprint devices will be discontinued, according to CLEAR. Service to those devices will end on Nov. 6, 2015.
Beginning immediately, Kajeet will partner with school districts to trade-in unusable WiMAX devices obtained from other companies in exchange for Kajeet SmartSpot devices. Districts will need to confirm their service is on the WiMAX network with another company, and Kajeet will provide a new free SmartSpot for each received device, as well as low-price LTE service on the nation’s largest wireless network.
School districts will receive all the benefits of Kajeet, including its patented Education Broadband™ which provides CIPA-compliant filtering, ensuring students only have access to educational content; reports to provide full visibility into student usage outside of school; and more than 10 years of expertise in keeping kids safely connected.
“We built our business on the premise of creating mobile services that are great for children and all those who love them,” said Kajeet CEO and Founder Daniel Neal. “It only makes sense for Kajeet to find a way to assist those students left stranded by other companies and support the districts that will be affected by the discontinuation of the WiMAX network. With the school year just starting and students engaged in their assignments, it would be highly disruptive for many of these children who rely on the Internet—just like we all do—to complete homework assignments, study for tests and prepare for college admissions.”
Currently partnering with more than 110 school districts in 27 states, plus the District of Columbia, Kajeet is keeping students connected on multiple national 4G LTE wireless broadband networks to ensure that students have a level playing field for academic success, improved test scores, and college and career readiness.
To ensure safe connectivity outside of the classroom and not just at home, schools issue to students the Kajeet SmartSpot solution, combined with the innovative Sentinel® cloud portal, providing customizable filtered Internet access to keep students focused on school work and provide educational connectivity. This keeps students on-task and controls costs. As part of the Kajeet solution, teachers and administrators receive reports with learning analytics to help improve student achievement.
