The Opportunity for Natural Gas and Alternative Fuels in Texas
Irving, Texas (PRWEB) October 07, 2015 -- The Texas Alternative Fuel Study was introduced at the Global Impacts of Unconventional Energy Resources Conference hosted at Texas Christian Energy Institute September 21, 2015. The study will show how natural gas and alternative fuels provide unprecedented opportunities for strong state-wide economic and environmental benefits. Texas is uniquely qualified to expand technical and innovative leadership from the basins to the highways to the ports. The report will focus on high volume fuel usage potential in Texas with marine vessels, locomotives, mining, oil and gas production, transportation and off-grid operations. It will highlight new engine and fueling technology options and identify market accelerators.
"Texas has an abundance of fuel sources. We have a unique opportunity to lead by example using our natural resources to collaborate and do the right thing for our economy and environment." Lynn Lyon, President EnergyConnects LLC
Marine Vessels – The Gulf of Mexico is a key growth region, projected to house nearly 75% of the new projects for new vessels in the United States. Daily headlines share stories of new vessel builds and conversions including the largest container ships that will require an average usage of over 6 million gallons of LNG per vessel per year. The four new passenger ships ordered by Carnival Cruise Lines combined will use over a million gallons of LNG per year - about half the energy equivalent for a 500 MW combined cycle natural gas plant.
Locomotives - Previous reports from America’s Natural Gas Alliance highlight 4.1 billion gallons of diesel purchased for North American railroads in 2013 with active research for switching to alternatives at all Class I Rail Operations. Texas is a major railroad fuel consumer and a top location of locomotive refueling opportunities.
Collaboration - A broad group of stakeholders are participating as advisors and sponsors, including the Texas Emission Reduction Plan (TERP) Stakeholders, Ryder, Atmos Energy, CenterPoint Energy, Cummins-Westport, Applied LNG, Apache Corporation, Rolls-Royce and others. Quarterly updates on key findings will be provided to sponsors. Please contact EnergyConnects if your company is interested in joining as an advisor or sponsor. Corporate or individual financial contributions can be made by visiting the Contribute page at EnergyConnects.org. This will provide a statewide view by county of constituent support for promoting natural gas and alternative fuels in Texas.
