When Geoff Serra Found Scientology, He Also Found Himself
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 06, 2015 -- You probably wouldn’t know it to meet him, but Geoff Serra wasn’t always the fun-loving, laid-back Aussie family man he is today. In fact, by his own admission, he was once kind of a nervous wreck.
“I had a bit of an anxiety problem,” admits the 44-year-old from a small country town in Victoria, near Melbourne, Australia. “I felt a little bit insecure. I couldn’t switch off at night. I couldn’t go to sleep. I’d be running through all the things in my head of what I had to do, how I was going to do this and that—and I’d worry.”
Serra is a toolmaker and has long had a knack for the technical trades, including robotic engineering, pneumatics, hydraulics and electronics. While he didn’t allow his agitation to stop him entirely, at the same time he sensed there was something missing. There was a spiritual longing that made genuine fulfillment elusive.
So when Serra heard a radio ad for L. Ron Hubbard’s masterwork Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, he asked his girlfriend Anna (now his wife) to pick up a copy.
“I read the book,” he recalls, “and it made sense and solved all sorts of issues for me. I found out that I’m a spiritual being and that there are certain things that we all have in common that affect our behavior.”
Attaining the state of Clear ultimately brought his life to a peak of serenity and self-confidence that he never imagined possible during the years when he was so consumed by fear and apprehension.
“Every feeling of insecurity I had was handled,” he emphasizes. “Every doubt I had about myself was handled. What I’ve found in Dianetics and Scientology was what I’d always been looking for even though I didn’t know I was looking for it.”
Serra believes that the knowledge he’s achieved in Scientology is every bit as important as the gains from his spiritual counseling, particularly with regard to relationships and the family. The study of Scientology books and courses gave him tools for navigating often complex family dynamics including raising children and helped him master social skills for his personal life and the workplace.
Like all of us, Serra simply yearned for happiness, something that seems forever unattainable to many. He believes that without Scientology having entered his life, he too may never have found the deep sense of contentment that now defines his daily existence.
“I thought I knew what happiness was,” he says, “but I could never seem to achieve it. Now I have a fantastic family and enough time to do all of the other things that I feel are important to do, like volunteer work and helping others. And Scientology is what has made it all possible.”
