Grinnell Mutual wants to give money to your community project
Grinnell, Iowa (PRWEB) October 07, 2015 -- Grinnell Mutual wants to give money to your community project
Grinnell Mutual is committed to giving back to the communities in which it does business. Since 2013, we’ve given $8,750 in grants to 13 non-profits through Working Together Making it Better. Whether it is a cleanup, a beautification project, or a service to your local schools, senior living, or animal shelter facility, we welcome your submission.
We checked in with last year’s winners to see how the grant money helped their organizations. This year, it could be your group that wins.
Puppy Jake Foundation
The Puppy Jake Foundation, based in Des Moines, Iowa, was the 2014 first-place winner and received $2,000 to purchase puppies and to professionally train and place them as service dogs for combat veterans.
The grant helped the foundation more than double its size and it now has 25 dogs in various stages of training. Funds were used to purchase dogs and their food, supplies, and veterinary care. Each dog requires two years and $25,000 to train.
“Every dog we can train and graduate means that one more veteran gets the help he or she needs,” said Becky Beach, the foundation’s president.
Fur Fun Rescue
Last year’s second-place winner, Fur Fun Rescue based in Lisbon, Iowa, is a non-profit dog rescue run by volunteers. Its entire budget comes from donations and grants. In 2014 Grinnell Mutual’s Working Together Making it Better grant program awarded the organization $1,000. The money rescued 10 puppies.
“All the puppies are now in loving homes and are happy and healthy thanks to a good care as puppies. We thank Grinnell Mutual for making this possible through their wonderful grant program,” Eldred said
Fun Fun Rescue has operated since September 2014 and has rescued just over 200 dogs.
Wapello County Trails Council
The council received $500 toward a trails project that creates a lighted underpass below Highway 34 near Ottumwa, Iowa, connecting two portions of a recreational trail divided by the highway. “It was a dangerous crossing and this not only makes it safer, it connects people to lots of new development in Ottumwa,” Jenkins said. The underpass is under construction now and is scheduled to be finished this fall.
