City and County of Denver, Colorado, to Track Street Cuts with Radio Frequency Identification
DAYTON, Ohio (PRWEB) October 09, 2015 -- The City and County of Denver, Colorado, with more than 6,100 lane-miles of roadway, has licensed CDO Technologies’ CDO RoadTag to better track street cut data.
Denver Public Works has purchased rugged Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags that can be programmed with specific information about a street cut -- such as contractor name and permit number—and placed beneath the final layer of pavement.
When a cut defect occurs, engineers using an off-the-shelf, handheld device running CDO Roadtag software can access the road cut information and take immediate action.
“We are excited about testing the RoadTag technology and being able to act on real time field-based data to address problem street cuts,” said James Barwick, Denver Public Works engineering manager. “We expect that our use of this state-of-the-art technology will result in new operational efficiencies for our staff and faster response times.”
Over the next few months Denver will evaluate the technology, adjust business processes, communicate with contractors, and calculate the total expected savings. With approximately 8,000 street cut permits issued each year, Denver expects CDO RoadTag to play an important role in the city’s efforts to better serve constituents.
CDO Technologies of Dayton, Ohio, designs, sources, implements, integrates and supports a complete portfolio of Automatic Identification Data Capture (AIDC) technology solutions for federal, municipal and commercial markets. AIDC solutions help improve the visibility, accuracy, and efficiency of logistics, asset management, manufacturing, healthcare, and customer service operations.
“CDO Roadtag was born two years ago in Dayton, Ohio, when city engineers there communicated a need to access real-time information regarding street cuts while they were on the road,” said Robert Zielinski, CDO Technologies director of commercial marketing. “Dayton saved $60,000 in labor that was repurposed due to efficiencies in the first year of implementation, and engineering efficiencies are now being recognized.
“CDO Technologies is committed to creating solutions that provide an immediate value to customers—in this case, municipal engineers and taxpayers,” said Zielinski. “CDO Roadtag is an example of a product that started as a custom solution to a very frustrating problem, was recognized for providing tremendous value, won several awards by the RFID industry, and is now scalable to other municipalities to leverage its proven success.”
CDO Technologies has been dedicated to creating solutions for customers since 1995. Its commercial customers include Proctor and Gamble; Gillette Company; Delphi Thermal Systems; CACI Technologies; the cities of Dayton and Riverside, Ohio, and Union City and Winchester, Indiana; NorAm International Partners; Premier Health Partners; UnitedHealth Group; and Dayton, Euclid and Winchester, Ohio Public Schools.
Over the past few months, CDO Technologies was selected as a prime contractor for the U.S. Air Forces’ $6 billion Netcents 2NetOps SB contract; the U.S. Army’s $180 million AIT contract; and the U.S. Air Force $450 million Technical Data Support Services Enterprise (TDSSe) contract.
This spring, CDO Technologies received the 2015 RFID Case Study Competition award from AIM Global for CDO RoadTag. AIM is an industry association and worldwide authority on barcode, RFID, RTLS, NFC and mobile computing. CDO also received an RFID Journal award for distinguished success in use of RFID in CDO Roadtag.
”I am very proud of CDO’s commitment to serving customers through the innovative application of technology,” said Al Wofford, CDO’s president and CEO. “The awards only validate how well our team grasps a business problem, then creatively defines a solution that drives immediate value.”
