Articulate Storyline was named a Leader in the report, receiving strong customer satisfaction scores with a large market presence. Additionally, iSpring Suite, Articulate Studio and Lesson.ly were named High Performers, earning strong customer satisfaction marks with a smaller market presence score. Overall, Articulate Storyline earned the highest overall Satisfaction score while Adobe Captivate earned the highest overall Market Presence score.
The Fall 2015 GridSM report is based on more than 250 reviews written by business professionals. Of the roughly 50 products listed in G2 Crowd’s Course Authoring Software category, the ranked products each received 10 or more reviews to qualify for inclusion on the GridSM.
The GridSM factors in customer satisfaction reported by users, along with vendor market presence determined from social and public data to rank products. Based on a combination of these scores, each software solution is categorized as a Leader, High Performer, Contender, or Niche.
Overall, course authoring reviewers were very pleased with their tools, with the lowest average satisfaction rating being 87 percent. Additionally, the average net promoter score (71) is also exceptionally high compared to other categories of business software on G2 Crowd.
Key findings revealed that simplicity outweighs flexibility. Products that are simple and easy to use were rated higher for satisfaction than products with robust and flexible feature offerings, despite users mentioning that the simplicity is limiting.
Several reviewers also noted they use multiple course authoring offerings, allowing them to get the best of both worlds – utilizing easy-to-use products for common and basic course content, and more robust products for complex and engaging content.
