Komen Can AZ® Promotes “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” with Phoenix Race for The Cure on Oct. 11
PHOENIX, Ariz. (PRWEB) October 09, 2015 -- Susan G. Komen® Central and Northern Arizona (Komen CAN AZ®) announced today that October has been declared “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” by Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton. The declaration urges Arizona communities to direct attention to the importance of breast cancer education, research, screening, treatment and support for all those impacted by the disease.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Komen CAN AZ is hosting the Susan G. Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure® in downtown Phoenix on Oct. 11. The Phoenix Race for the Cure is Komen CAN AZ’s signature fundraising event, with 100 percent of net proceeds funding breast cancer research and life-saving breast cancer services and programs for those who would not otherwise have access to screening and treatment in the central and northern regions of Arizona.
“Having the support of our local communities during Breast Cancer Awareness Month is critical to our mission of ending breast cancer forever,” said Heather Roberts, executive director of Komen CAN AZ. “The Phoenix Race for the Cure is a great way for Arizonans to get involved in the cause—it’s such an amazing experience to come together to uplift survivors, co-survivors and honor those who have lost their battle.”
One hundred percent of net proceeds from the Race are committed to the Komen promise, with 75 percent of net funds raised staying within Komen CAN AZ’s service area and 25 percent supporting international research into the causes and cures for breast cancer. To date, Komen CAN AZ has granted more than $20.2 million to support local lifesaving breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs and $6.2 million to international research efforts.
