California Southern University Names Dr. Judith McLeod Dean of School of Nursing
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) October 13, 2015 -- California Southern University has named Dr. Judith McLeod dean of the university’s new School of Nursing. Dr. McLeod—who earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the renowned Johns Hopkins University—comes to CalSouthern with a career in nursing and education that has spanned four decades.
Dr. McLeod’s long and successful nursing practice included a variety of patient care, education and management positions at a number of hospitals and healthcare facilities, including Mission Hospital in Orange County, California, and Kaiser Permanente. Her practice areas of expertise include pediatrics, labor and delivery, neonatal intensive care, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, occupational and physical therapy, rheumatology, and gastroenterology, among others. For her doctoral project, Dr. McLeod developed an early screening tool for juvenile fibromyalgia.
Dr. McLeod has taught nursing at the university level since 2001 and has academic leadership experience, as well, having directed nursing degree programs at the associate, bachelor’s and master’s levels.
“I am thrilled to join California Southern University and to have the opportunity to lead the new School of Nursing,” says Dr. McLeod. “I look forward to enriching our students’ lives and practices, and to empower them to then positively influence other nurses as they incorporate the knowledge and skills they attain at CalSouthern into their practice.”
The School of Nursing’s initial degree offerings will include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing. The programs will enable students to complement their core nursing curriculum with courses in the psychology of aging, addiction studies, leadership, management, management communications, and healthcare administration, among others, offered by CalSouthern’s School of Behavior Sciences and School of Business. The new degrees will be available in early 2016.
