Information and Data Quality Awards presented to Joseph Bugajski, Piyush Malik and Dr Laura Sebastian-Coleman
Baltimore, MD USA. (PRWEB) October 15, 2015 -- Joseph (Joe) M. Bugajski is the Managing Vice President for Gartner Research where he oversees Information and Analytics teams providing executive guidance to Chief Data Officers (CDOs) and CIOs on information strategy, management and infrastructure; and business intelligence (BI) and advanced analytics. His personal research interests span the role of the CDO, data strategy, data management, BI and advanced data analytics. Mr. Bugajski is industry advisor to MIT's CDO program, where he co-founded MIT's annual CDO Forum. He is emeritus chair of the Finance Task Force of OMG.
Prior to this Mr. Bugajski was Visa International's CDO, with global operational responsibility for VisaNet, the world's largest payment network. His CDO program added $2 billion annual payment volume. Before becoming CDO, Mr. Bugajski was chief system architect and resident entrepreneur responsible for Visa's back-office, billing, risk, business intelligence and analytics solutions. Prior to joining Visa, Mr. Bugajski was CEO of Triada, a global data analytics software provider for 15 years. He holds six U.S and international patents for big data pattern recognition software and has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers published in journals and conferences. In addition to 4 awards for MIT’s IQ program, he has been recognized previously for data mining programs at Visa.
IAIDQ recognizes Joe Bugajski’s body of work in the data domain and for his contributions to information quality and governance disciplines, with the 2015 Outstanding Achievement Award.
Piyush Malik leads the Worldwide Big Data & Analytics Center of Excellence within IBM’s Global Strategy & Analytics consulting practice focusing on data- driven business transformation and data science. With 25 years of Management Consulting background, he works on emerging technologies and strategic initiatives at IBM and for clients.
He has served as founding director of IBM’s Global Business Analytics & Optimization Center of Competency. Prior to that, he served as the America's Global Delivery leader for Business Intelligence (BI) professional services helping in IBM's Globalization strategy by incubating new offerings in BI, information management foundation , data governance and quality among others and establishing teams across a network of 9 delivery centers worldwide including the BRIC countries. Previously, he led the Information Integrity consulting practice at Pricewatehouse Coopers Management Consulting Services where he developed and applied their methodology spanning data quality and governance for international clients. He cut his teeth in telecom, product management and software development with world renowned and pioneering firms in Asia and America before that.
Piyush has been a Charter Member of IAIDQ since 2005. He served on the IAIDQ board from 2008 to 2015, first as Director of Partner Relations and later as Director of Strategy. Under Piyush's leadership, IAIDQ's regular webinar series grew from Ask-the-expert webinars to the current IDQ Webinars. Passing the baton, Piyush set his mind to developing partnerships for IAIDQ, raising much needed capital through sponsorships and developing relationships with other organizations across commercial, academic and non-profit realms bringing significant discounts and benefits to IAIDQ members.
He was part of the global subject matter expert team which created the IQCP – the industry’s first and only vendor- neutral professional certification program in the field of data quality. He has presented over 160 papers in commercial and academic conferences across four continents and published 14 peer reviewed journal, industry publications and book chapter contributions including IAIDQ’s 2012 industry benchmark study “The State of Information and Data Quality”.
He has spearheaded the IAIDQ awards program from conception to execution for the past five years which recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions in the field of information quality. It is fitting that Piyush himself be awarded the Distinguished Service Award to recognise his dedicated leadership & professional achievements in the field of data and exceptional service to IAIDQ and its board of directors.
Dr Laura Sebastian-Coleman, currently serves as the leader of the Data Quality Center of Excellence at Healthcare insurer Cigna. Previously as IT Manager- Data Quality at United Healthcare and a data quality architect at Optum Insight, she has worked on data quality in large health care data warehouses since 2003.
She has had a long distinguished career in data quality. Laura has implemented data quality metrics and reporting, launched and facilitated Optum Insight’s Data Quality Community, contributed to data consumer training programs, and has led efforts to establish data standards and manage metadata. In 2009, she led a group of analysts from Optum and UnitedHealth Group in developing the original Data Quality Assessment Framework (DQAF) which is the basis for her book “Measuring Data Quality for Ongoing Improvement”, published by Morgan–Kauffmann in 2013.
An active professional, Laura has delivered papers at MIT’s Information Quality Conferences and at IAIDQ conferences and webinars. She holds the IQCP (Information Quality Certified Professional) designation from IAIDQ, a Certificate in Information Quality from MIT, a B.A. in English and History from Franklin & Marshall College, and Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Rochester (NY). Laura has been a member of IAIDQ since 2007 and served as Director of Member Services from 2009-2010.
