cleverbridge, a global full-service ecommerce provider for software and subscription companies, announces its first women-in-tech themed hackathon to be held October 16–17 at the cleverbridge Chicago office. She Hacks Chi will bring together women coders of all skill levels for a day and a half to develop applications in a collaborative environment. The goal of these applications is to inspire and encourage girls ages 8-15 to pursue their interest in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) fields.
The event will kick off Friday evening with an ideation session and install fest where participants will get a chance to meet each other, brainstorm ideas, form into teams and install any software they will need to start coding. Saturday will be a full day of coding, starting with the keynote speaker Roni Tehori, CTO of Sentic Technologies Inc., who will share her story as a woman in the technology space.
Teams of coders will then break off into conference rooms to begin building prototypes of their applications. Afterwards, teams will present their ideas to panel of judges for a chance to win one of four categories: Most Innovative, Benefits the Community, Potential Market Success or Best Pitch. The judging panel includes Craig Vodnik, co-founder of cleverbridge, Amanda Lannert, CEO of Jellyvision, and Helen Levinson, CEO of Indigo Interactive. 8th Light, Catapult and Jellyvision are also donating their time and resources as team leads and mentors, helping guide the participants in building out their prototypes as well developing their presentations.
“We are excited to host our first women-in-tech themed hackathon and help close the gender gap in tech by giving women the tools they need to successfully pursue STEM career paths,” said Vodnik. “The gender disparity in technology fields is a serious issue and we want to help change the trend by paving avenues for women to explore technology.”
