Fertility Practice Recognizes National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on October 15, 2015

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) October 15, 2015 -- The staff of Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT) will be honoring National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on October 15, 2015 by wearing pink and blue ribbons as a quiet nod of solidarity to patients who have experienced bereavement from losing a pregnancy or child.

“Many of our patients come to us after multiple miscarriages,” says Dr. Mark Leondires, Medical Director at RMACT. “Their grief is tremendous because it is also a moment of losing hope for what they thought their future would be. It is our mission to change this course, to help them heal and have children.”

As a leader in the fertility field, RMACT provides several fertility treatments that help patients avoid miscarriages. The most significant advancement in fertility treatment in the last decade is Comprehensive Chromosome Screening (CSS), which enables us to identify healthy embryos prior to IVF transfer, thus reducing the risk of a miscarriage. Then, the healthy embryos are frozen and transferred during a frozen embryo transfer cycle (FET). According to a report from the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies (SART) released this Spring, RMACT has a live birth rate of 66% (84/127) for women under 35 years old with thawed, non-donor cycles, as compared to 44% nationally.*

Many RMACT patients have also had successful cycles and healthy pregnancies as a result of improving their overall health through RMACT’s Integrated Fertility and Wellness (IFW) Program. Patients who are pre-diabetic, diabetic or have other metabolic conditions are at higher risk for infertility and miscarriage. Excess weight can lead to diabetes and high blood pressure, which during pregnancy can in turn lead to complications such as gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, congenital abnormalities, and even miscarriage or stillbirth.

At RMACT, patients have the opportunity to overcome these added health challenges by availing themselves to IFW Program resources such as acupuncture, Fertile Yoga, psychotherapy, peer- and professionally-led support groups, and working with an in-house nutritionist. Through hard work and refining lifestyle habits such as eating, sleeping and exercise routines, RMACT patients are able to improve their health and subsequently have full term, healthy deliveries.
