Westin Reston Heights Sponsors Charity Luncheon to Help Raise Money and Awareness to Fight World Hunger
RESTON, VA (PRWEB) October 19, 2015 -- The Westin Reston Heights, in the suburbs of Washington, DC, hosted a luncheon to support FEED, a foundation started by Laura Bush to help feed those in need around the world. The event was held on October 16, World Food Day. The hotel did its part to help towards FEED’s goal to raise enough money for 2 million meals collectively. The hotel is managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts, an operator of over 100 hotels throughout North America, including 15 in the Washington, DC area.
FEED has provided nearly 87 million meals since its inception in 2007. Friday’s sold out event filled the private dining room of the hotel’s award winning Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro. The bistro is known for its contemporary small plates menu and extensive wine options, and the private dining room, features natural light with views overlooking the restaurant’s patio and Chef’s herb garden. The full restaurant can host groups of 20 -100 guests.
“We are very proud to partner with FEED,” said Tim Bailey, General Manager for the Westin Reston Heights. “We feel it’s so important to give back to the local community and be a strong community leader.” The hotel participates in fundraiser events nearly every month with hotel team members volunteering their time. The nonprofit charities that the hotel assists included: American Heart Association, Ronald McDonald Charity Homes, Brides Against Breast Cancer, Locks of Love Hair Donation, Backpack Drive, Wounded Warrior Project, Yellow Ribbon Fund, Toys for Tots and Katherine Hanley Family Shelter. Earlier this year the hotel received a coveted Community Outreach Award from its management company, Crescent Hotels & Resorts.
Those in attendance were able to help a good cause and also enjoy a fine meal. Guests also received a sneak peek (and taste) of Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro’s new fall menu, set to be available to the public in a few weeks. “Because we have such a loyal following, we are continually trying new dishes,” said the hotel’s award winning Executive Chef, John-Michael Hamlet. “Our regular guests really enjoy coming in and discovering our newest dishes.” The new dishes for the fall include, a roasted Brussels sprout salad, pumpkin seed crusted chicken, pumpkin pie cheesecake with homemade allspice ice cream, along with others.
In addition to raising money for FEED with this sold out event, the Vinifera team raised money for the charity via donations from hotel guests and associates. While the event was held last week, individuals are still able to make a tax deductible donation online via the foundation’s link. The Westin Reston looks forward to supporting other FEED events in the future.
