GS Marketing’s President, Shelley Washburn, was appointed one of the Top Twenty Women in Business by Texas’s National Diversity Council-Gulf Coast Region on October 13, 2015. This honor was awarded to Shelley at the Houston Women’s Conference themed “Women as Game Changers: Orchestrating Business Success Today and in the Future.”

“The Houston Women’s Conference gives recognition to top women executives, discusses women’s unique contributions as leaders, and their opportunities to orchestrate positive outcomes for future business success,” said Dennis Kennedy, Founder & CEO of the National Diversity Council.

Shelley was presented the award by the National Diversity Council after an extensive application process in which Shelley explained her passion for creating collaborative teams, mentoring women in the automotive industry and creating a culture of community involvement at GS Marketing.

When asked what has been most important to her success, Shelley answered “You are only as successful as your team. I’ve found it important to be authentic with my associates and customers and promote an environment of trust. I understand the importance of hiring and promoting great people. Great things come from collaboration, which only works when associates respect and trust one another.”

Shelley also points out her success mentoring female executives, “I have a passion for mentoring women in the automotive industry. I have always made it a priority to promote women to Director and VP roles; currently 60% of these roles at GSM are women.”

Shelley enjoys success outside of the board room. Her passion for giving back and business savvy have landed her a spot on the Advisory Board for Child Advocates and the Women’s Initiative for the United Way. Under Shelley’s leadership, GS Marketing is also involved in volunteer efforts for United Way, Child Advocates, Junior Achievement and Houston Food Bank among other charities.

Shelley joined GS Marketing in 2005 where she has held multiple leadership positions, including marketing positions, VP, Sales and most recently VP, Account Services, leading the GSM corporate relationships and strategy for Toyota Motor Sales and Gulf States Toyota accounts.
