Dialogue on Pope's Retreat Encyclical Set At St. Mary's Retreat Center
Morristown, NJ (PRWEB) October 16, 2015 -- Answering Pope Francis’ call for dialogue on his encyclical, Laudato Si, On Care for Our Common Home, Sacred Thread Ministries and St. Mary’s Abbey Retreat Center will hold three evenings of reflection and discussion on Wednesdays, Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and Nov. 11 from 7:30 pm to 9 pm at the Abbey’s Morristown-based Retreat Center.
The Oct. 28 session will cover Chapter One: What is happening to our Common Home? Using the study guide prepared by Bill Huebsch, national speaker and Vatican 11 scholar, the Sacred Threads Retreat team of Fr. Peter J. Krebs, S.T., Anita Constance, SC and Kathleen Detlet, D. Min have highlighted the questions raised by the Pope about the effects of ‘a throwaway society’, loss of biodiversity, and water shortages have on the quality of human life, the breakdown of society and global inequality.
In a facilitated reflection and discussion, participants will read short excerpts of the encyclical and thoughtfully reflect on their meaning, before discussing together the Pope’s challenging questions of personal responsibility.
“This is an appropriate time for us to consider this far reaching encyclical, especially after Pope Francis’ worldwide appeal in his speech to the United Nations’ regarding what he calls his ‘our common home’. Guided by The Spirit, we can be certain of a productive beginning to this important conversation,” said Fr. Peter Krebs, S.T. founder of Sacred Thread Ministries.
The public is invited to this free will offering event, but register with Paul Cocco at 973-538-3231. St. Mary’s Abbey retreat Center is located at 230 Mendham Rd., Morristown, NJ 07960
