About the Author: Born in Tarapoto, Peru, on the fringes of the Amazon Rainforest, Gregorio Delgado, MD, never saw a car or made a telephone call until entering high school in Lima. Influenced by his father, whose life as a physician was dedicated to the ailing poor in rural Peru, he also chose a career in medicine and studied at the medical school in Trujillo. He continued his medical training in Buffalo, New York, specializing in female cancer.
Dr. Delgado progressed to teach and practice in some of America’s leading medical schools and hospitals. He spent most of his career at Georgetown University Medical school, where he became a professor and head of the female cancer program, as well as associate director of the Lombardi Cancer Center. He was a chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Loyola Medical School in Chicago, and the West Penn Alleghany Health System in Pittsburgh.
