New England Franchise Association Presents National Labor Relations Board/Joint Employer Luncheon for Franchisors
Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 22, 2015 -- The New England Franchise Association (NEFA) will present a National Labor Relations Board / Joint Employer seminar / luncheon for new and established franchisors.
The event takes place on Nov. 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hilton on 2 Forbes Road in Woburn, MA
Last year a landmark decision was rendered by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) which determined that McDonald's was a joint employer of its franchisees' employees because of mandatory controls it had in place regarding franchisees' employees. McDonald's is fighting this decision vigorously in the courts. However, if a major franchisor is found to be a joint employer with its franchisees then that organization is ripe for unionizing because it leaps out of the protected arena of small business.
The NLRB's recent decisions are signaling a new era for U.S. business owners and one that could have far-reaching negative impact for franchisors. If certain businesses can be deemed joint employers, then the consolidated employee numbers rise sufficiently to be unionized.
.
The event is titled "Spotlight: NLRB/Joint Employer Ruling – What Franchisees and Franchisors Need to Know." Featured speaker Barry Guryan is a member in the Health Care and Life Sciences and Labor and Employment practices of Epstein Becker Green and Managing Shareholder in the firm's Boston office.
During the presentation, franchisors will be invited to share what they are doing to preserve the integrity of the well-established independent franchisor- franchisee relationship.
Mr. Guryan provides practical and strategic advice to major U.S. and international corporations, to assist them in achieving their goals in labor and employment matters, including developing labor and employment policies to avoid litigation, managing union relations, and maintaining union-free status.
Mr. Guryan brings years of diverse experience, including prior employment in the Appeals office of the NLRB government.
Attendees can register through the NEFA website at nefranchise.org. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. For more information, email info(at)nefranchise(dot)org.
