(PRWEB UK) 23 October 2015 -- October 26th to 31st will see this year's annual National Lorry Week taking place across the UK.
Organised by the Road Haulage Association (RHA), the nationwide event will this year focus on the theme of 'Love the Lorry' and hopes to see as many people as possible showing their appreciation for the sterling efforts of the UK's professional hauliers.
At present, the industry employs more than 2.2 million people and contributes in excess of £74 billion to the national economy.
RHA chief executive Richard Burnett stated: "85 per cent of everything we eat, wear and buy and use is moved, at some point, on the back of a UK-registered lorry.
"We have a huge impact on the lives of everyone in Britain but sometimes that positive contribution is overlooked.
"National Lorry Week will provide us with an opportunity to reach out to the public and politicians as never before to highlight our massive and positive contribution to daily life."
Events are scheduled to take place across the country as part of this year's National Lorry Week campaign, with members of the public being encouraged to get up close to some of the industry's newest lorries, as well as having the chance to hear the stories and experiences of real-life lorry drivers.
In addition, the RHA will be running a competition that could see participants winning up to £1,000 simply by making note of the many 'Love the Lorry' stickers that will be adorning heavy goods vehicles across the UK in the coming days.
By contacting the RHA with details of where they saw the stickers, respondents will be entered into a draw with the chance to win several great prizes.
Steve Clarke, Bunkercard Marketing Manager- specialists in fuel card solutions for hauliers and keen supporters of National Lorry Week, echoed the importance of recognising the vital role hauliers play in our everyday lives.
“We owe a great deal to the Haulage industry and it is often underestimated the difficulties drivers face on a daily basis and the importance of the role they play to our economy.
"Here at Bunkercard we hope National Lorry Week will help shift trends away from the increasing number of vans on the road that have been adding to congestion across the country. HGVs fill up less often than vans and carry more per trip, easing numbers on the road and reducing the queue build up at forecourts." http://www.thefuelcardpeople.co.uk/time-on-the-forecourt-becoming-critical/
