The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is highly selective in its enrollment management, that's why the Academy partners with Paskill Stapleton & Lord

“We understand how to work with well-positioned, highly-selective institutions," says PS&L Principal Jim Paskill.

On its website,, the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) is profiled as “highly selective.” Indeed, USCGA has a strong identity for excellence, dating back to its founding in 1876 on the schooner Dobbin.

Thus, Paskill Stapleton & Lord (PS&L) is honored to be retained by the Academy for all of its enrollment management, including student recruitment marketing; anything that builds visibility for the brand of an outstanding institution of higher education that, also according to its website, “is proud to educate leaders of a multi-mission, maritime military force. Commissioned officers in the Coast Guard lead teams of men and women and are continually called on to serve their community, country and fellow citizens.”

The Academy’s mission of service will be enhanced and reinforced by PS&L through a variety of marketing functions, including; communications, publications, general outreach, website, market research, staff development, media; anything that builds visibility for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy brand. Not only does PS&L’s work solely in the area of enrollment in higher education make for a good fit for this selective academy, but the Glenside, PA-based firm also knows the Academy, having worked with USCGA in the past.

“We understand their role in the Coast Guard service, their role in the Department of Homeland Security, and their position in the marketplace as a highly selective institution with a focus on the STEM disciplines,” explains PS&L Principal and Creative Director Jim Paskill. “We bring an understanding of both the institution and the marketplace.”

Paskill is also quick to point out that, although PS&L specializes in enrollment management, that does not mean that every PS&L client needs a new brand or a new identity. That’s the case with the Academy, an institution that already has a strong brand. PS&L has been retained to raise the visibility of that brand, to focus on the Academy’s specific experience in the marketplace. For example, Paskill notes, there is a big difference between providing immediate support for the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security.

“Not everyone is enrollment–challenged,” he says. “We understand how to work with well-positioned, highly-selective institutions.”
