On its website, http://www.uscga.edu, the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) is profiled as “highly selective.” Indeed, USCGA has a strong identity for excellence, dating back to its founding in 1876 on the schooner Dobbin.

The Academy’s mission of service will be enhanced and reinforced by PS&L through a variety of marketing functions, including; communications, publications, general outreach, website, market research, staff development, media; anything that builds visibility for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy brand. Not only does PS&L’s work solely in the area of enrollment in higher education make for a good fit for this selective academy, but the Glenside, PA-based firm also knows the Academy, having worked with USCGA in the past.
“We understand their role in the Coast Guard service, their role in the Department of Homeland Security, and their position in the marketplace as a highly selective institution with a focus on the STEM disciplines,” explains PS&L Principal and Creative Director Jim Paskill. “We bring an understanding of both the institution and the marketplace.”
Paskill is also quick to point out that, although PS&L specializes in enrollment management, that does not mean that every PS&L client needs a new brand or a new identity. That’s the case with the Academy, an institution that already has a strong brand. PS&L has been retained to raise the visibility of that brand, to focus on the Academy’s specific experience in the marketplace. For example, Paskill notes, there is a big difference between providing immediate support for the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security.
