eCube Systems, a leading provider of middleware modernization, integration, and management solutions, met up with Hewlett Packard’s OpenVMS Specialist John Egolf at the OpenVMS Bootcamp in September to discuss a variety of topics related to OpenVMS. Hewlett Packard announced the end of support for OpenVMS in 2014 and the OpenVMS community has been in a state of flux since the announcement. With the announcement in June that a new company, VMS Software Incorporated (VSI), will take over development of new versions of OpenVMS, John has become the primary contact with VSI from HP. With a focus on the relationship between HP and VSI, John communicates and resolves issues between the various HP teams, including Technical Services (TS), Supply Chain, the Business and Marketing teams, and the R&D engineering group.
John provided eCube with his unique perspective on the future of OpenVMS and how the events of the past year have affected the long term viability of OpenVMS and its community.
