Baseball United Foundation Announces Daniel Murphy World Series Pledge Drive to Benefit Little Leaguers in Ireland
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 26, 2015 -- A local charity is putting Daniel Murphy’s hot bat to use for a good cause.
The Baseball United Foundation is holding a “World Series Base Hit Pledge Drive.” Baseball fans can pledge a donation for each base hit that Daniel Murphy gets during the World Series. Proceeds go to help Little League and youth baseball programs in Ireland.
“Daniel Murphy is an Irish-American and he’s having an amazing run this post-season,” explained Baseball United Foundation Executive Director John Fitzgerald. “Now fans can donate to help kids in Ireland, every time Daniel gets a base hit in the World Series.”
Pledge amounts are being accepted -- from $1 to $20 per base hit -- at the foundation’s website, SupportIrishBaseball.org or at https://rallyup.com/daniel-murphy. Pledges will be accepted until the final out of the World Series.
Murphy was named Most Valuable Player of the National League Championship Series, after hitting for a .529 batting average with four home runs. His performance helped the New York Mets advance to the World Series, where they will take on the Kansas City Royals.
“The money we raise will help provide safety equipment, playing fields, and coaching for kids who don’t have access to these things because of where they live,” says Fitzgerald. “This is an easy and affordable way to help out kids while watching the World Series - and you don’t have to be an Irish-American or a Mets fan to participate.”
Baseball has been played in Ireland since the early 1990s. Today, over 200 kids are playing baseball throughout Ireland.
In recent years, The Baseball United Foundation has sent over 1,000 lbs of baseball equipment to Ireland, as well as helping to build a ballpark in County Meath. The foundation also sends coaches to Ireland and brings Irish teenagers to America to participate in baseball camps.
