Pika Energy Secures Patent for DC Nanogrid Technology
Portland, Maine (PRWEB) October 29, 2015 -- Pika Energy has secured a broad patent for its core direct current (DC) nanogrid technology that enables homes and small commercial buildings to efficiently collect, manage, store, and use clean power. The patent is the latest in a widening pool of intellectual property for the power electronics firm.
Pika Energy developed its REbus™ DC nanogrid platform to make clean power from renewable sources more affordable and easy to use in powering conventional, critical and DC-powered loads. REbus is a 380V DC bus at the heart of all Pika Energy products, including smart inverters, solar optimizers, battery charge controllers, and small wind turbines. U.S. Patent #9,148,016, titled, DC Microgrid for Interconnecting Distributed Electricity Generation, Loads, and Storage, details Pika Energy’s innovative approach in developing simple, scalable distributed energy systems.
“The issuance of a broad patent on our core nanogrid technology strengthens Pika Energy’s role in driving the future of distributed clean energy systems,” said Pika Energy Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder Joshua Kaufman. “The simplicity and scalability of our approach will accelerate homes and businesses transitioning away from fossil fuels. At Pika Energy, we believe DC nanogrids are the future of energy supply and demand.”
Pika Energy has installed nearly 75 DC nanogrids, combining wind, solar, batteries and DC loads in 22 U.S. states, Canada, and overseas markets. The company is accelerating efforts to work with leading PV and storage integrators, battery manufacturers, utilities, and HVAC vendors with aligned visions to power a more widespread transition to clean energy.
“Pika Energy’s nanogrids can have a dramatic impact on the future of energy,” said Ben Polito, President and Co-Founder of Pika Energy. “As we continue to bring our innovative clean power products to market, we seek strategic partners who share our goal of making clean energy affordable and easy to use.”
