It’s crucial to monitor not just the containers themselves, but to understand how microservices and applications within the containers perform.
Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 27, 2015
Ruxit, a division of Digital Performance software company Dynatrace, today announced findings from a new survey titled: The State of Containers and the Docker Ecosystem 2015. The report identifies key issues facing organizations using containers, including in-production application performance monitoring to achieve even more successful container deployments. The report, conducted by O’Reilly Media in collaboration with Ruxit, provides insights into adoption, use, and challenges of container technologies like Docker. Survey participants represent 138 companies across a wide range of industries, including software, consulting, publishing and media, education, cloud services, hardware, retail, government and others.

Since Docker launched in 2013, more than 800 million containers have been pulled from the public Docker Hub and this technology continues to capture the attention of developers and operators alike. While container use is skyrocketing there are barriers to success that need to be addressed.
Findings of the survey include:
- More than 93% of respondents are already using or plan to use containers for development, testing, or production.
- The vast majority (78%) are opting for Docker.
- Fast and easy deployment is the most important reason for using Docker (85%).
- Within the next 6-12 months, over half (53%) of all respondents plan to adopt containers in production.
- Nearly half (46%) see performance monitoring as a key challenge in the production environment.
- Reliable and production-ready solutions are required for orchestration (56%), performance monitoring (46%) and automation (40%) because containerized environments are extraordinarily dynamic, making them uniquely challenging to monitor and manage in terms of performance.

“It’s crucial to monitor not just the containers themselves, but to understand how microservices and applications within the containers perform. This is where Ruxit is an ideal match for those highly dynamic infrastructures,” said Ruxit CTO Bernd Greifeneder. “The survey shows monitoring application performance and scalability are key factors to success with container technology, and over half of those planning a container deployment in the coming 6-12 months will do so in production. Ruxit is perfectly suited to in-production performance monitoring of containerized applications, so we couldn’t be in a stronger position.”
The container survey validates the need for production-ready, stable, integrated solutions that address key container challenges. Moreover, there are no other solutions on the market that can monitor the performance of applications running inside of containers without installing an agent on every container. Ruxit allows organizations to install just one agent per host – which can encompass many containers – making ease of installation and scalability second to none.

Methodology: Ruxit commissioned O’Reilly Media to conduct a survey in May 2015 with individuals from the O’Reilly community to share how their organizations currently use or plan to use containers. The 138 respondents are from a range of industries, including software, consulting, publishing and media, education, cloud services, hardware, retail, government, and others. They represent a spectrum of different sizes of companies or organizations, with about half coming from organizations with fewer than 500 employees. Thirteen percent of responses are from organizations with over 10,000 employees.
Ruxit is the fastest growing application performance self-service platform for startups, mid-size companies, and large organizations. Its unique Artificial Intelligence technology enables companies to manage thousands of servers with very small IT monitoring teams.
