Legion Prospect Series Sets Stage for the Best Baseball Players in Minnesota to Shine
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) October 27, 2015 -- The Legion Baseball Hub announced today an enhancement to the sport that will help baseball players across the state gain greater exposure from college and professional scouts.
The Legion Prospect Series, which will begin in February 2016, is set to highlight the best Minnesota baseball players. The three-tiered event is available to all MN baseball players and through evaluation pares down the field to the final 60 players in the state.
“This is a premier event, the best showcase of its kind in Minnesota,” said Nick Kennedy, founder of http://www.legionbaseballhub.com. “This series will put the best players all on the same field and allow Pro scouts and the top colleges to evaluate players they may have otherwise not had the chance to see play.”
It all starts in February 2016 when all interested players can tryout at evaluation sessions held at the Edina’s Sports Dome as well as Players Only Baseball training facility. From there the field of prospects is reduced to the top 150 to 200 players who will be invited to further evaluation by scouts in mid-June at Siebert Field on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
To conclude the series, the final 60 players will be invited to compete in the LPS Elite 60 Games that are to be played in front of college coaches and scouts, providing the prospects with an additional opportunity to gain exposure.
Gene Larkin, a former Minnesota Twins World Series hero and current head coach for Edina Legion, is leading the LPS endeavor along with numerous other Legion Coaches from around the state, said that the series will give players exposure like they have never experienced before.
“We want to find the best the state has to offer,” he said. “It’s good for players, it’s good for scouts and it’s good for baseball.”
Minnesota Twins President Dave St. Peter said he applauds Larkin for his involvement and he is happy to support the series.
“Our manager, Hall of Famer Paul Molitor and our All-Star reliever, Glen Perkins both starred on the Minnesota Legion Baseball diamond in their youth and that experience helped make them who they are today,” he said. “We couldn’t be happier to help grow baseball in our state and to help young ballplayers further their careers.”
Kennedy said that one of the most important parts of the series is that all participants, regardless if they advance or not to further evaluations, will have a profile built with stats, video and vitals on an electronic database on the series’ website.
“This is all about finding the perfect fit for all interested players,” said Kennedy. “The Legion Prospect Series gives everybody a fair look.”
