The Wander Wool retreat will take place at the Corning Museum of Glass February 4-7, 2016
"The Wander Wool retreat is a chance for our guests to transform the way they think about knitting, no matter how long they’ve been doing it."

Wool and molten glass will blend and fuse for a one-of-a-kind fiber arts experience during the Wander Wool retreat February 4-7, 2016, at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, N.Y.
Yarn Culture, a store specializing in unique and hard-to-find yarn from around the world, has collaborated with the Corning Museum of Glass to offer the four-day experience. The retreat will feature knitting instruction from top teachers and designers, while incorporating inspiration from modern glasswork, said Yarn Culture’s owner Patti Odinak.
Melanie Berg, a designer from Bonn, Germany, will be an instructor at the retreat. Berg is known for the way her shawl patterns combine color, shapes, and texture. This will be her first teaching tour in the United States and her only stop in the Northeast U.S. The other two instructors will be Laura Nelkin of upstate New York, who published her first book, Knockout Knits, in September 2014, and Patty Lyons, a nationally recognized knitting teacher and technique expert from Brooklyn, N.Y.
Each guest instructor will teach several exclusive three-hour workshops on topics ranging from beaded knitting and shawl construction to the magic of perfect blocking. Retreat attendees will receive more than nine hours of hands-on knitting instruction throughout the event, inspired and informed by access to the Corning Museum of Glass’ more than 40,000 glass pieces. Students will even have a chance to create their own glass beads, and will get a unique glimpse into the design process through the museum’s GlassLab program. There, Melanie Berg will work with a professional glassmaker to create a piece before a live audience.
“The Wander Wool retreat is a chance for our guests to transform the way they think about knitting, no matter how long they’ve been doing it,” said Odinak. “The GlassLab design event is a unique opportunity that is not typically available to the general public. We’re incredibly excited and honored to share this experience with our guests.”
GlassLab is one of several special events Yarn Culture will host each day of the retreat. Guests will also enjoy full access to the Corning Museum of Glass along with group dinners each evening with their fellow students and the knitting instructors.
