Beacon Technology Leveraged at Europe’s Most Prominent Retail Industry Exhibition

Signal360, Ecods, and Accenture have partnered to deliver a first of its kind beacon experience for attendees throughout the remainder of “Expo 2015” via the official “Coop Expo” mobile app and Ecods’ Proxee Platform. As part of a wider partnership with Ecods and Signal360, this is Accenture Retail’s first beacon-based project in Italy. Expo Milano 2015 is continent wide exhibition based out of Milan, Italy, that began May 1 and runs until October 31, 2015. The Expo showcases over 140 participating countries demonstrating technologies and initiatives with the goal of “being able to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the Planet and its equilibrium,” according to the official Expo website. Throughout the duration of Expo, there will be an approximate footfall of 20 million unique visitors– and the total exhibition area of the Expo spans 1.1 million square meters.

Beacons placed throughout the “Coop Pavilion” grounds trigger contextually relevant messaging. “The goal of beacons and proximity marketing is to enhance someone’s engagement with their physical environment through their mobile device at the right time, with contextually relevant content. Signal360 works to bring out the best proximity marketing experience, and our deployment at Expo is an example of practicing what we preach– both by showcasing this technology onsite, and in turn, demonstrating how retailers in attendance can use it to enhance their in-store shopping experience,” says Lev Raslin, Senior Director of Business Development at Signal360.

This year’s Expo is primarily sponsored by Coop, one of the world’s largest Supermarket chains. Coop branded beacon notifications serve to help distribute highlights showcasing different Expo events and demonstrations. Existing client and partner of Proxee and Signal360, OVS, is also powering a number of notifications for cross-brand marketing. As a fashion retailer, OVS has set a precedent in retail in Europe for driving ROI via beacon based notices and offers. One of their use cases at the Expo entails promoting official Expo apparel both on site and at their stores.
