Inspired by Wayne Dyer, Stay-At-Home-Mom Embarks on Heroic Walk Across U.S.
Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) October 29, 2015 -- Stay-at-home mom, Jessica Thompson, is walking across the United States to honor the memory of the “father of motivation” – Dr. Wayne Dyer– by raising money for a brilliant but desolate artist, Ivanhoe Ardiente, who has a rare disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis, can receive a much-needed surgery. Thompson hopes to raise at least $20,000 so Ardiente’s surgery can be performed, as well as ongoing treatments, post-surgery.
On Sunday, October 11, 2015 Thompson left from Jacksonville, FL, and started walking across the US. She plans on walking approximately 20 miles a day and believes her journey may take as long as a year. Currently, Thompson is sleeping in a tent most nights, with friends pitching in to purchase hotel rooms a few nights per week. She has already battled torrential rains and thunderstorms, and has experienced both the best of America and the worst. Even with the challenges she has experienced, she is undeterred.
“I plan to tell as many people as possible the amazing story of this friend of mine (Ivanhoe) who has severely limited mobility but still paints beautiful scenes every day,” Thompson said. “I hope this walk will inspire many people, just like Wayne Dyer and Ivanhoe have inspired me.”
Ivanhoe lives in the Philippines and sustained major orthopedic damage as a consequence of decades of unmanaged care. Ivanhoe’s hips, right shoulder, entire spine (including neck) have calcified as a natural progression of Ankylosing Spondylitis. Recently, Ivanhoe visited the Tim Tebow CURE Hospital in Davao City, Philippines and was seen by an orthopedic surgeon, Timothy C. Mead, MD AAOS. Dr. Mead hopes to increase Ivanhoe’s mobility through strategic hip replacement surgery.
All funds go directly to the CURE Hospital, an International 501(c)3 corporation, that will provide Ivanhoe’s surgery and care., in partnership with the Tim Tebow Foundation. CURE International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Federal Tax Id Number: 58-2248383), and all funds provided are tax deductible.
Thompson, who lives near Nashville, TN with her husband and two kids realizes this herculean endeavor would not be possible without the love and support of her family and friends.
Inspired by Wayne Dyer for over a decade, and after hearing of his passing, Thompson knew it was time to place action on his words. Dyer believed ordinary people could accomplish great things if they would just begin.
Thompson said, “Well I can walk. I walk 10 miles a day today, for exercise. I can do that. In fact, I can walk across the US, to bring awareness to the teachings of Wayne Dyer, and raise money for Ivanhoe’s surgery in the process.”
International training company, Succeed On Purpose® is helping to facilitate Thompson’s walk and efforts to raise money for Ivanhoe’s surgery by building the Inspired By Wayne website where Thompson will post updates and individuals can donate. Individuals can also follow Thompson on her A Walk Across The United States Facebook Page. Succeed on Purpose is securing newspaper, radio, and TV interviews in every market across the U.S. to drive donations from every city Thompson stops in, as well as the thousands of people who will hear her story.
“Once I connected with Jessica, learned of her mission and heard her authenticity and passion, I knew what I had to do,” said Terri Maxwell, CEO of Succeed on Purpose. “I try to live my life every day by subscribing to the teachings of Wayne Dyer. I am going to do whatever I can do to help Jessica – as Wayne would say – ‘do more.’”
