Wimbledon Health Partners Announces Partnership with Purdue University to Test Student Athletes for Cardiac Abnormalities
Boca Raton, Florida (PRWEB) October 29, 2015 -- Wimbledon Health Partners, the industry leader in on-site diagnostic testing for physicians and athletic programs, is pleased to announce a partnership between Wimbledon Athletics and the Purdue University athletic program to evaluate student athletes for cardiac abnormalities, giving these athletes the opportunity to deal with the problems identified before they become life threatening.
Under the direction of Purdue’s head team physician, Dr. Greg Rowdon, MD, Purdue may refer athletes to use this service to diagnose conditions that could put athletes at risk. “With this testing in place, we now feel comfortable telling parents that their kids can fairly safely participate in Purdue athletics from a cardiac standpoint. For those identified with heart anomalies, we can now recommend an appropriate course of action and/or treatment,” Dr. Rowdon explains. Also important is the manner in which the EKGs are read. Purdue and Wimbledon follow the Seattle criteria, set by an international group of sports cardiologists, for reading EKG results. This reduces false positives to below five percent—an important factor in ensuring these diagnostic tests are doing their job.
