Experts in Elective Single Motherhood to Host Informational Event in Norwalk, CT

Single Mothers by Choice and Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut invite single women interested in parenthood to “Single Women Pursuing Parenthood” at Hotel Zero Degrees in Norwalk, CT on November 8 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT), Fairfield County’s largest fertility practice and egg donation center, and Single Mothers by Choice (SMC), an online resource and community for single mothers, are co-hosting an event for single women who are considering becoming mothers. “Single Women Pursuing Parenthood” is a social gathering for single women to discuss and learn about the decisions, concerns and rewards of becoming a mother.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet experts in single motherhood and reproductive medicine: Jane Mattes, LCSW and founder of SMC; Dr. Spencer Richlin, a partner at RMACT and lead physician for; Lisa Schuman, LCSW and Mental Health Program Director at RMACT renown for her extensive work with patients considering single motherhood, egg freezing and various infertility treatments. A light brunch will be served while these experts facilitate a discussion about single parenthood; possible topics include choosing a sperm donor, creating a support system and navigating questions from family and friends, as well as considering how to share their stories with children, family and friends.

“For women who choose to be a single mother, there is a strong, meaningful community,” says Jane Mattes, LCSW and founder of SMC. “Women experience this community as soon as they attend an event such as this one, an event where like-minded women ask smart questions and show support for each other.”

On December 3, 2015 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., RMACT is hosting an opportunity for women to learn more about their fertility and to receive a free anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) test at the fertility practice’s Stamford office. Second, on December 10 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., RMACT is hosting a Single Moms To Be Support Group at the Danbury office. Both events are free, but registration is required. Single Moms To Be, in partnership with Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT), is a program created to provide support for single women through online resources and RMACT’s dedicated medical team, including lead physician Dr. Spencer Richlin, patient navigators, nurses and counselors. provides information to single women who want to know more about the emotional and medical process of using assisted reproductive technologies (ART) to become a mom.

Thousands of single women, predominantly in their thirties and forties, have joined SMC since that time and remain with the organization as they strive to be the best parents they can be.
