A New Physician Assistant Joins Albuquerque’s Western Dermatology Consultants in November
Albuquerque, New Mexico (PRWEB) November 01, 2015 -- Albuquerque’s dermatology experts at Western Dermatology Consultants are welcoming a new member to their team. Starting Nov. 2, 2015, Marcia Starns, MPAS, PA-C, will be joining them as a physician assistant working out of the practice’s two offices, one on the eastside, and one on the westside.
Marcia Starns, a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, is relocating from Tennessee to New Mexico, bringing with her a dozen years of dermatology experience, with particular experience in medical dermatology, including psoriasis—a scaly, patchy skin disease—and performing surgeries for lesions, both benign and malignant.
She also has experience with cosmetic procedures, which are popular at Western Dermatology Consultations. Albuquerque residents can find BOTOX®, dermal fillers, laser hair removal, CoolSculpting®, chemical peels, reduction of scars and visible veins, and more.
“In short, I enjoy all aspects of dermatology, and the variety of patient ages and skin issues keeps the topic always interesting,” she said.
Marcia Starns joins Carol Purcell, PA-C, who has been with Western Dermatology Consultants since 2008. As a physician assistant, Carol Purcell evaluates and treats dermatology patients seeking help with moles, rashes, acne, rosacea, sun damage, and more. She can perform biopsies, surgical procedures, and tattoo removal. She is also a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, which explains on its website that physician assistants train with medical students and extend a practice’s access to patients, especially in such fields as dermatology, where demand may exceed available providers in a given geographical region.
Another benefit of a physician assistant, according to the society, is that the extra pair of skilled hands can help the practice move more quickly on treatments, which is often of particular interest to patients dealing with skin cancer.
Western Dermatology Consultants is overseen by three board-certified dermatologists—Dr. Barbara Einhorn, Dr. Leslie Glass, and Dr. Sara Mills—who focus on surgeries and numerous aspects of general dermatology. Together, they opened the Spa @ WDC, which offers cosmetic dermatology solutions to treat large pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines, dark circles, cellulite, thin lashes, and even excessive sweating.
The Western Dermatology Consultants team also includes nurse injector specialists who administer the fillers and cosmetic neurotoxins, as well as aestheticians who focus on skincare for patients seeking hair removal, facials, chemical peels, and laser treatments, as well as Thermage®, CoolSculpting®, and other procedures.
