InsuranceJobs.com, the leading employment website for insurance careers, reports a decrease of 6.3 percent in the number of insurance job postings to its career site for the month of September 2015 compared to the previous month.
The decrease in job postings to the insurance employment website goes against the reported increase in the number of new insurance jobs gained in September as reported by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics in the monthly Economic Situation Report released on Friday, October 2, 2015.
The Economic Situation Report revealed a growth of 1,700 jobs in September, a 0.06 percent increase over the previous month. The insurance carriers and related activities subsector now sits at 2,555,800 jobs with an unemployment rate of 3.1 percent. This subsector includes such occupations as claim adjusters, examiners and investigators; first-line supervisors or managers of office and administrative support workers; and insurance sales agents and underwriters.
Insurance carriers and related activities belongs to the financial activities supersector, which saw no overall growth for the month of September. Each month, the insurance carriers subsector traditionally makes up almost half of the job growth in its supersector. Over the last year, the insurance carriers subsector accounted for 49 percent of the overall growth within the supersector.
Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 142,000 jobs in September, while the unemployment rate remained at 5.1 percent. Job gains for the month primarily occurred within health care and the information sector.
