Success Education Colleges goes Pink to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
West Covina, California (PRWEB) October 31, 2015 -- This October, to show its solidarity with women as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Success Education Colleges (SEC) will be going Pink on all nine of its campuses.
SEC will be posting flyers, videos and public service announcements at all of its nine campuses to help encourage women to get checked for breast cancer.
Yet SEC’s incredible support of women, especially women in need, touches upon the core belief of Marsha Fuerst who founded its first campus, North-West College, almost fifty years ago, in 1966.
Marsha grew up in tenement housing in the heart of Chicago where she witnessed poverty on a daily basis. Moved by her empathy for those around her, specifically the poor mothers who were struggling to feed their families, she thought she would become a medical missionary. In fact, at a young age, she spoke of everyone’s right to lead a happy and successful life. And though her family had little in terms of financial abundance, they were rich in inspiration. When Marsha opened North-West College in 1966 to 43 students in 2 classes, all of her students were women. Thus Marsha’s dream of empowering women took flight on October 10th in West Covina almost 50 years ago.
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month began years later in 1985 and the use of the pink ribbon to symbolize solidarity with the movement was cemented in 1993 by two other strong, empathetic women, Alexandra Penny, editor-in-chief of the women’s health magazine and Evelyn Lauder, breast cancer survivor and Senior Corporate Vice President of the Estee Lauder Companies.
It is only fitting then that SEC, a college founded by a strong and driven woman like Marsha Fuerst, would go pink on all 9 of its campuses to recognize National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. SEC honors the lives of the women who have died because of this disease, those who are currently fighting for their lives, and the young women who will benefit from the education that this month will bring them about the importance of being checked for breast cancer.
We think that Marsha would be proud of SEC.
