Law Offices of James Scott Farrin Donates Pediatric Bronchoscope to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center
Durham, NC (PRWEB) November 03, 2015 -- After witnessing a little two-year-old inhalation patient nearly go into respiratory failure, and staff rushing to obtain a pediatric bronchoscope from Respiratory Therapy, Mary Lee Baker, RN BSN, Director of Clinical Operations at the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, remarked to a coworker that a dedicated pediatric bronchoscope would greatly enhance care.
Word of this need filtered through to the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, which has cultivated a supportive relationship with the Center – recognized as one of the best comprehensive burn centers in the world. Within a couple of months of learning of this vital need, the law firm raised enough money from within to donate the instrument.
Having represented a number of accident victims who have been treated for burn injuries at the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, associates at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin knew the quality of medical care and overall support their clients have received there.
“Many of our clients have been treated at the Burn Center, and we’ve seen firsthand the excellent work that they do. They are heroes in every sense – to the burn victims and to their families,” said Barry Jennings, an attorney at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, who helped spearhead this effort with fellow attorney, Eric Haase and others.
The firm began fostering a relationship with the Burn Center in January of 2014. Since that time, firm volunteers have enthusiastically supported its mission by providing dinners for patients and staff and donating baseball tickets for past patients, primarily children in the Center's after-patient program. Most recently, in July 2015 the firm donated the pediatric bronchoscope.
“A couple of times a year, a group of us from the firm enjoy bringing dinner to the Center and sharing it with patients and the staff. It’s truly a highlight for us. You just cannot do enough for these patients – or the staff there. That’s why this donation was a privilege for our firm, and for me personally,” added Haase.
The North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center is a 36-bed facility – one of the few in the nation that is American Burn Association-verified for adult and pediatric care. Baker said that she does not know of many – if any – other burn units who have a pediatric bronchoscope dedicated for children under the age of two.
Baker added, “Since children under age two are so small, they require a very delicate bronchoscope. Fortunately, it’s been rare that we’ve needed to use one. This generous gift to our tiniest patients will make a world of difference – to them, their families, and of course, our staff. Thankfully, we’ve not had to use it yet, but it’s there when we do.”
