“It is crucial for rehabilitation that these men and women find good jobs and are not forced back on the street,” Melissa Posey, President, M3 Development Group

Although not exclusive to people with challenging backgrounds, M3 Development Group, a new job placement start-up, will specialize in finding employment for convicted felons.

The Greenville company will service all levels and positions in manufacturing, construction, food services, accounting, healthcare, truck driving, environmental, IT, office and administration.

“In today’s America, there is no such thing as rehabilitation,” said Melissa Posey, President, M3 Development Group.

“Men and women with a history are not allowed forgiveness,” she said. “In return, they cannot find gainful employment to become productive members of society.”

In a report issued by the Leadership Conference, a mere 31 percent of former inmates were employed two months after being released. The data also showed that it is becoming increasingly difficult for men and women with criminal convictions to find jobs.

According to the report, use of criminal background checks in employment has become widespread. More than 90 percent of companies reported using criminal background checks for their hiring decisions, which is up from 51 percent in 1996. These background checks are used for a wide range of jobs, from warehouse workers and delivery drivers to sales clerks.

Posey believes rehabilitation for people with criminal convictions hinges upon finding gainful employment.

“It is crucial for rehabilitation that these men and women find good jobs and are not forced back on the street,” she said.

Kelly Walker, executive director of the Upstate Fatherhood Coalition said M3’s focus of rehabilitating men and women through job placement is also valuable to the local economy.

“Once these men and women find jobs, rehabilitation can be achieved, they can take care of their families, and the local economy is improved,” he said.
