Allegheny Health Network Partners with Prominent Sports Medicine Director to Advance Sports Medicine and Performance Programs
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) November 04, 2015 -- Allegheny Health Network(AHN) today announced the engagement of Bill Moreau, DC, to assist the Network in its development of world class training facilities and programs geared toward helping elite athletes achieve their fullest potential.
Dr. Moreau will serve as a consultant to AHN and work with its sports medicine team to further advance the organization’s sports training and performance programs. This work will be in separate from his work as Managing Director of Sports Medicine at the United States Olympic Committee(USOC).

AHN became designated as an official U.S. Olympic Regional Medical Center in 2014, joining an exclusive national network of seven leading healthcare organizations selected by the USOC to provide care for elite Olympic athletes. AHN will also soon be collaborating with USOC Sports Medicine on a number of important injury prevention and sports concussion-related research initiatives.
“We look forward to working more closely with Dr. Moreau to enhance and expand our programs, particularly as we’re poised to open a new sports complex in Bethel Park that will enable us to provide exceptional training, injury prevention, rehabilitation and performance improvement services for athletes of all ages and levels,” Dr. DeMeo said.
The Allegheny Health Network Sports Complex at Cool Springs will offer outpatient orthopedic care, diagnostics, and athletic training programs, complemented by a state-of-the-art facility that features a regulation-sized soccer field, fitness center, basketball and volleyball courts, batting cages and a high-tech, multi-sport simulation center. The complex is expected to be completed by January 2016 and will also serve as the new practice facility for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds professional soccer team.
Dr. Moreau is a board-certified chiropractic sports physician and strength and conditioning specialist who has worked with Olympic, professional, collegiate, high school and recreational athletes for more than 30 years.
In his role with the USOC, Dr. Moreau provides medical direction for the Olympic, Paralympic, Youth Olympic, Pan American and Parapan American Games. He served as Team USA’s medical director at the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, at which he was responsible for overseeing the medical care of more than 500 athletes. Moreau will be the Chief Medical Officer for Team USA at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games.
He also manages the USOC’s National Medical Network, which was established in 2013 to provide more comprehensive and better coordinated medical services to elite Team USA athletes, including orthopedics and sports medicine, primary care, cardiovascular care, neurosurgery, physical therapy, and more.
Through AHN’s seven hospitals and 17 orthopedic and rehabilitation centers across western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio, athletes are able to receive advanced testing, treatment and rehabilitation in close to home settings. For highly specialized levels of orthopedic care, the Network’s hospitals offer innovative therapies and minimally invasive procedures that help athletes recover faster and with less post-operative pain.
The Network’s Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Institute has condition-specific centers where teams of highly experienced doctors collaborate to develop treatment plans unique to each patient. Allegheny Health Network is also home to a leading athletic concussion management program and is one of just a few medical centers in the country using a groundbreaking new concussion evaluation and management system called C3 Logix. The system combines a computerized neurocognitive exam with a novel tablet-based technology that tracks an athlete’s dynamic vision reflexes and ability to visually focus on moving objects to determine the existence or severity of a head injury.
Dr. Moreau will participate in sports medicine-related research conducted by AHN’s Orthopaedic Institute and will play a role in the education and mentoring of AHN orthopaedic fellows. He is founder and educational coordinator for DConline, a web-based program providing continuing post-graduate chiropractic education and has delivered more than 500 postgraduate presentations on physical medicine and sports injuries throughout his career, with a special interest in athletic concussions.
