American College of Lifestyle Medicine Announces Partnership with Wellcoaches Corporation
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) November 04, 2015 -- The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) announced today—the final day of Lifestyle Medicine 2015—a partnership with Wellcoaches Corporation to co-develop Lifestyle Medicine and Healthy Behaviors Curriculum for Health and Wellness Coaches.
“Establishing a standard for health coaches in lifestyle medicine will help ensure that crucial information is consistently of the highest caliber,” said David Katz, MD, MPH, president of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. “Coaches reach an enormous number of people, and, with standardized training in lifestyle medicine, they’ll have an enhanced ability to promote health and prevent disease. The public can be confident that certified coaches are practicing at a high standard and providing evidence-based guidance. Certified Health and Wellness Coaches who specialize in lifestyle medicine will become integral members of the lifestyle medicine practice team, contributing importantly to the treatment and even reversal of disease."
“Certified Health and Wellness Coaches are uniquely qualified,” said Margaret Moore, CEO of Wellcoaches. “The coaching curriculum is science-based, integrating 15 evidence-based theories and domains in behavior change and coaching psychology.”
The forward thinking collaboration brings together shared visions, purpose, and core values between ACLM and Wellcoaches, which is in strategic partnership with the American College of Sports Medicine. The outcome of this collaboration will help the public and medical community to better understand and recognize the high level of training and education professional health and wellness coaches have attained.
"Lifestyle as medicine has the potential to prevent up to 80% of chronic disease; no other medication can match that. It's free of all but good side effects and is safe and appropriate for children and octogenarians alike. It is, quite simply, the best medicine we've got,” emphasized Katz. “A national standard for health coaching in this area will help make this medicine go down, allowing many more people to benefit from the opportunity lifestyle medicine uniquely offers: adding years to our lives, and life to our years."
