Tessella Helps AkzoNobel Launch Shipping Industry’s First Predictive Coating Efficiency App Using Big Data Analytics
Oxford, Oxfordshire (PRWEB UK) 5 November 2015 -- With support from leading analytics company Tessella, AkzoNobel’s Marine Coatings business, has launched Intertrac Vision, a consultancy tool that can accurately predict fuel and CO2 savings from different fouling control coatings. Using 3.5 billion data points, Intertrac Vision has been designed to accurately predict the performance of coatings before they have been applied to the hull of a ship, and is the first tool created for the shipping industry to enable this level and type of analysis.
Intertrac Vision uses proprietary algorithms and models to provide an accurate and detailed assessment of the impact of each potential coating choice. Intertrac Vision generates a full cost-benefit analysis, detailing the impact on estimated fuel consumption, fuel cost and CO2 emissions of the different coating options.
Michael Hindmarsh, Project Lead for Intertrac Vision at AkzoNobel said: “Intertrac Vision is a state-of-the-art tool that brings a new level of transparency and choice when it comes to coating selection. Through Intertrac Vision, we will work consultatively with ship owners and operators, delivering instant access to accurate data on the rate of return from fouling control coatings prior to application. In an industry where coating selection can make a significant difference to a vessel’s operational costs and environmental performance, our aim through Intertrac Vision is to enable ship owners and operators to increase profitability, while becoming more sustainable.
“The way that Tessella worked with us on the development of Intertrac Vision really has exceeded our expectations .The team drew on their advanced expertise in analytics and application design generating a constant source of new ideas and worked in partnership with us to determine which features will give the biggest impact. Tessella put processes in place to ensure that the project was always on track and the result is an application that we feel will bring a new level of transparency and choice to the industry.”
Tessella brings a wide range of scientific and technological knowledge to clients within a diversity of sectors, and has unrivalled expertise in capturing and processing large data sets to help visualize results. AkzoNobel and Tessella have a longstanding relationship, working together on many successful projects and winning the UK IT Award for Innovative Mobile App of the Year in 2014.
Keith Norman, Tessella's Sector Director for Consumer Industries said: “At Tessella we use our combined knowledge of different disciplines and markets to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients. This latest project with AkzoNobel is a great example of how we approach this – we have been working with the company for over a decade on various visualization projects which have resulted in invaluable tools for customers and sales teams. Intertrac Vision brings the focus on understanding the real world benefits – which in this case includes the environmental value that can be achieved, as well as cost impact.”
