Houston-area metal building manufacturer and distributor, Whirlwind Steel Buildings, expanded Gulfex Holdings’ South Houston facility. The project added a 90’ x 210’ building, Bay 7, to the company’s existing 58,000 sf facility.

The full size of the addition was 90’ x 210’ x 40’. It included two 100 ton top-running cranes with a 76’ bridge span, plus a 70’ x 25’ Schweiss Bifold door system. The addition’s exterior finishes include Whirlwind’s 26 gauge Galvalume Plus Super Span X roof and wall panels.

Whirlwind Steel Buildings President, Ty Sturdivant, commented on how uniquely suited steel construction is to Gulfex’s demanding industrial fabrication environment. “The wide spaces and clear spans that Gulfex needs for their operations are a perfect match for the strength and durability of steel.”

Gulfex CEO, Butch Sheehy, said the company was pleased with the partnership. “They were thorough, precise, and had all the capability we could need. As fabricators, we appreciated that. As customers, we also appreciated the way they respected our deadlines and budget. Whirlwind made the process easy.”
