With growing Federal and state level movements to grant “provider” status to pharmacists, it's time for us to step up to our rightful roles as critical members of the care team

Joseph Gruber, who received the Richard S. Berman Service award, annually given to an individual for outstanding service and dedication to foster the goals of the Society, was among the top honorees announced at the recent annual meeting of The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP). In addition to an accomplished career in pharmacy clinical operations in long term care, and more recently with focus on improving medication management of ambulatory high risk seniors, Gruber serves as a past president of ASCP.
In accepting his award, Gruber told the audience that there has never been a more exciting time than now for consultant and senior care pharmacists to have major impact on the transformation of healthcare. He cited Medicare’s increasing emphasis on the necessity to incorporate medication management and reconciliation as part of chronic care as evidenced by their directives to Long Term Care in the recently released Mega Rule; and just in the last few weeks by creating a 5 year demonstration project that incents Prescription Drug Plans to deliver “Enhanced Medication Therapy Management” to its beneficiaries. "With growing Federal and state movements to grant “provider” status to pharmacists, it's time for us to step up to our rightful roles as critical members of the care team", said Gruber.
“ActualMeds is very fortunate and proud to have Joseph Gruber as part of our management team” said CEO Patricia Meisner. “His strong relationship with ASCP and their collective expertise in geriatric medication management has brought an extremely valuable perspective to our business. Groups like the ASCP in concert with individuals like Joseph are in the vanguard of those leading clinical healthcare reform.
