With 71% of organizations saying their top leaders are not prepared to lead into the future, this new report offers a foundational model and a tool to help struggling companies improve

Brandon Hall Group, the leading independent Human Capital Management research/analyst firm, released a new report today that outlines a framework for companies to upgrade Leadership Development and improve business performance.

High-Performance Leadership Development: Framing a Systematic Approach, developed and written by Laci Loew, VP and Principal Analyst for Talent Management, unveils Brandon Hall Group’s revised framework and business impact model following research earlier this year.

The report also features a tool that allows organizations to assess their current state of Leadership Development and identify areas for improvement.

This report follows an earlier report, Leadership Development 2015: The Time to Act is Now, which showed that 84% of organizations are experiencing, or expect to have, a shortage of qualified leaders. The study also shows a lack of quality leadership, with 50% saying their leaders are not leading effectively today and 71% saying they are not prepared for the future. Only 25% of organizations reported they have a ready and willing successor for at least one critical leadership positon.

Brandon Hall Group CEO Mike Cooke called the new report “an example of the excellent prescriptive research that sets Brandon Hall Group apart. Our research not only identifies the key challenges that confront leadership today, but explains the reasons behind the challenges and offers specific, nuanced strategies for change based on the research and our principal analyst’s years of experience in this space.”

Said author Loew: “Organizations that develop leaders to prevent leadership gaps and ensure critical leader capabilities, on average, are more than twice as likely as their peers to report increased organizational revenue and customer loyalty. Yet our research suggests that most organizations have yet to fully implement leading practices in leadership development,
and therefore, are struggling to attract and retain the talent essential for business success and continuity. This report provides detailed guidance to get organizations started on a path toward greater success.”
