Measurabl hosted the release of a new report showcasing San Diego's rise to the 4th ranked region for clean technology in the U.S. The report, details the region's cleantech sector, illustrating key trends and highlighting successes and opportunities in the region.
Measurabl, the San Diego-based startup for sustainability data, reporting, and energy analytics hosted San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria, Cleantech San Diego President Jason Anderson, and sustainability representatives from Sempra Energy and Intuit for the announcement.
“We are proud of the innovation economy we have in San Diego and the cleantech sector that is made up of great companies like Measurabl.” Said former San Diego Mayor and current City Council Member Todd Gloria. "When you are able to combine the innovation and business minded nature of cleantech companies, that will help us maintain what’s so special about San Diego and that’s something everyone can support.”
The San Diego region has become a cleantech leader, rising from the #11-ranked metro in 2012 to #4 in 2015, according to the Clean Edge report. The report shows the region is especially strong in green buildings, clean vehicles, renewable energy, and venture capital invested in cleantech.
As one of San Diego’s most notable cleantech start-ups, Measurabl was chosen to host the event. The Global Cleantech Cluster named Measurabl the world’s #1 cleantech start-up for its innovative B2B sustainability software. In recent weeks, Measurabl was profiled in the Wall Street Journal and named one of Xconomy’s “hottest startups”. The company’s software has been adopted by many of the world’s largest real estate companies and corporations who collectively represent over 1 billion square feet of commercial property, making Measurabl the fastest growing software by that measure in both the real estate and cleantech industries.
“Measurabl's rise to dominance in energy and sustainability software is proof that start-ups, and cleantech start-ups in particular, can raise significant venture capital, attract premiere talent, and compete internationally from right here in San Diego.” Says Matt Ellis, Measurabl’s Founder and CEO. “There’s no place I’d rather build and grow our company.”
Measurabl has raised over $2 million in venture capital from within the region and hired several UC San Diego alumni including CTO Lance Onken, and System Architect Dave Schumann. The three became friends during their Freshman year.
“I got used to competing alongside Matt when we played water polo together at UCSD. When I had the chance to do it again in business, particularly with such a compelling vision, it was a no brainer” says Onken, who played goalie for four years on UCSD’s decorated water polo team.
“We are pleased, but not surprised, that San Diego continues to rank among the best regions in the nation for its cleantech market strengths,” said Cleantech San Diego President and CEO Jason Anderson. “We attribute this top ranking to the strength of our regional partners: private sector innovators and public sector visionaries who keep San Diego on the cutting edge of the clean energy economy.”
