USAA, National Business Leaders, and Entrepreneurs Come to Northern Virginia to Network, Educate and Support Military Spouses
Lorton, VA (PRWEB) November 09, 2015 -- Military spouse unemployment remains high at over 20%. Coupled with a transient lifestyle with a location move every 2-3 years leaves many military spouses struggling to pull together a portable career. To address this issue, the National Military Spouse Network will convene their fifth annual Military Spouse Career Summit November 13-14 in Springfield, VA, bringing together entrepreneurs, business leaders, and sponsors such as USAA to educate, mentor and inspire military spouses.
This year’s summit features three separate events, each focusing on a different topic: entrepreneurship, military life transition and more general professional development. Katherine Berman & Sophie LaMontagne, co-founders of Georgetown Cupcake, will be headlining the professional development sessions sponsored by USAA.
“As an organization created by the military for the military, USAA understands that the mobile nature of military life comes with its own set of unique challenges for spouses,” said Maggie Hahn, USAA Military Relationship Director. “We are proud to sponsor the NMSN Military Spouse Career Summit to help spouses prepare for and navigate through those challenges, and help keep the home front strong both emotionally and financially.”
Sue Hoppin, spouse of a recently retired Air Force officer and founder of NMSN, discusses the importance of the summit, “When I started my consulting business, it was challenging to find other military spouse business owners who could relate to what I was going through. Apparently others felt the same way because every year, the summit attracts people from around the US and overseas to be among their tribe of other career minded military spouses. We’re proud and supportive of our service members, but for two days during the summit, the focus is on us, the spouses and growing our business or progressing our own career goals.”
The Military Spouse Career Summit is National Military Spouse Network’s signature event. Registration and information for the 2015 Military Spouse Career Summit can be found at http://www.milspousesummit.com.
