Enterprise-ready Solution for DevOps is Open Source and Available on all 3scale Plans

Our customers asked for automated solutions to deploy the API gateway on-premise and we delivered.

Today 3scale announced availability of the 3scale Chef Cookbook, an enterprise-ready solution for development operations that enables automated deployment of API gateways with Chef on the 3scale API Management Platform. The Cookbook, available now on the Chef Supermarket, allows Chef users to easily automate deployment of the 3scale API Gateway and connection with the 3scale cloud for easier internal deployments and quicker connection with other services. This fast and simple solution is a game changer for current or future Chef users looking to enhance automated workflows for their API infrastructure. The 3scale Cookbook is open source, and contributors are welcome and encouraged to fork and send pull requests. It is available now as an option on all free and paid 3scale plans.

Simple to deploy, running the Cookbook on one or more target servers installs OpenResty and all the necessary system dependencies required. Once executed, the servers have an up-and-running gateway listening for incoming API requests. Further, the Cookbook also deploys 3scale Nginx configuration files, specifically tailored to a user’s API configuration, and to the exact location required.

“Our customers asked for automated solutions to deploy the API gateway on-premise and we delivered,” said Mark Cheshire, COO at 3scale. “Currently we have a large North American customer using this in their workflow for a rather large and sophisticated content distribution use case. We’re pleased to offer this to all our customers and look forward to the open source community making it their own.”

The open interfaces of the 3scale API Management platform make it easy to script deployment for not only Chef but for a variety of other configuration management platforms. Automation of IT infrastructure is no longer only a productivity enhancer, it is a key requirement for businesses to remain agile and competitive.

“As APIs become more the standard than the exception in the enterprise, it’s important that businesses can easily make changes to their API configurations,” said Matt Ray, Director of Partner Integration, Chef. “We’re excited to see 3scale’s new Chef Cookbook help simplify the automation of API workflows for users.”
