Fantasy Novelist Scotty Sanders Forms Quest of the Keys Non-Profit To Empower Young Readers
Flower Mound, TX (PRWEB) November 10, 2015 -- On October 23, author Scotty Sanders hosted the first official meeting of the Quest of the Keys non-profit organization in Flower Mound, Texas. Sanders wrote his first fantasy novel to help teach middle school and high school-aged students leadership development skills through a high-stakes fantasy-adventure story.
Already, Quest of the Keys has been featured on lists of inspirational books for students and required reading lists for schools all over the world. Now, the Quest of the Keys non-profit board will work to create new opportunities for empowering the next generation.
"Getting to lead an organization that's doing something that you are deeply passionate about is very exciting. I wake up in the morning thinking about it," Sanders said.
At the first meeting of the board, Sanders and his team established leadership positions and reviewed vision and mission statements. The board set an ambitious goal of empowering one million young people by 2025.
In the short term, Sanders is finalizing a pilot program with select schools, set to launch in 2016. The board will collaborate with students and educators to develop an evaluation tool, as well as incorporating potential new resources like a video game app and character development curriculum.
Now that the non-profit has been created, Sanders will be able to provide these tools to schools and organizations at no cost, whereas the curriculum was sold at bulk rates previously.
Blake Wheelis, owner of Blake Wheelis Insurance Agency, was selected to be the Chairman of the Board. Wheelis has served on a number of non-profit boards in the past, including serving as Chairman of the Board for the West Monroe Chamber of Commerce.
"Quest of the Keys is an outstanding program to help empower the next generation to boldly face life's challenges and to be a positive influence in their world," Wheelis said. "I am so excited about being a part of a team whose goal is reaching thousands of students with this life-building message."
The board also includes Tim Cole as the Vice Chairman; Roxann Brennfoerder as Secretary and Treasurer; Jeff Tasker and Kevin Lynam as board members; and Sanders as board member and Executive Director.
"It’s not often that one discovers an organization that wants to give the gift of leadership to young teenagers, but here is our opportunity to leave a long-term legacy to the children of the world," said Brennfoerder. "I’m looking forward to serving on a board that has the goal of making the world a better place -- of helping the next generation to stand up and be accountable for its destiny!"
