Attorney Zafer Akin named to the 2015 New York Metro Area Super Lawyers List
New York, New York (PRWEB) November 11, 2015 -- Akin Law Group, PLLC is proud to announce that New York attorney Zafer Akin has been selected to the New York Metro Super Lawyers list for 2015, his second year in a row earning that distinction.
The Akin Law Group concentrates its practice on employment law (emphasizing sexual harassment and hostile work environment claims stemming from employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, pregnancy, age, disability and family medical leave act claims (FMLA)) in the states of New York and New Jersey. Among his many honors, Mr. Akin is most proud of having been recognized by the Association of Trial Lawyers of America–New Jersey for providing free legal representation of New Jersey families and victims of September 11, 2001. In 2005, he received a Certificate of Appreciation for Extraordinary Service for serving as part of the New York State Trial Lawyers’ Cares Team, which aided more than 1,700 victims’ families.
“I do everything I can to make sure employees are treated fairly,” said Akin. “Being selected to the Super Lawyers list is an honor because it shows that the legal community recognizes the work I am doing to help workers that have been discriminated against because of their individual traits and those that have been sexually harassed when all they want to do is earn a living and provide for their families.”
The selections for this esteemed list are made by the research team at Super Lawyers, which is a service of the Thomson Reuters legal division based in Eagan, Minnesota. Each year, they undertake a rigorous multiphase selection process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, independent evaluation of candidates by the attorney-led research staff, a peer review of candidates by practice area, and a good-standing and disciplinary check.
No more than 5 percent of lawyers in a state are named to a Super Lawyers list.
Mr. Akin has been practicing law for more than 20 years. He was one of the founding partners of Akin and Smith, LLC in 1995, a firm that focused its practice on civil litigation, civil rights, employment discrimination and sexual harassment until its dissolution in 2010. That same year, Mr. Akin formed a new firm, The Akin Law Group with which he continues to serve employees in New York and New Jersey with a concentration of his practice in New York City (Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island).
